HealthConnect.Link Selected for UW Tech Park Mentorship Program
Madison, November 26 – HealthConnect.Link, a Madison-based non-profit venture, has been accepted into the Madison Entrepreneur Resources, Learning and Innovation Network (MERLIN) program and is receiving key support from a dynamic team of mentors. MERLIN is a Madison-based corps of volunteer business leaders who have masterfully started and managed new ventures. Mentors use their skills, experience and enthusiasm in guiding emerging entrepreneurs in early stage ventures to boost the potential of business success.
HealthConnect.Link is creating an online community of free and subsidized health resources, helping low income uninsured or underinsured patients access needed services and support.
Kevin Dwyer, CEO of HealthConnectLink, states, “Being selected as a MERLIN entrepreneur has had such a positive effect on our project. Our MERLIN mentors are a tremendous source of experience, wisdom and positive energy. They have provided the focus needed to accelerate our project. I’m grateful to have them on our team.”
HealthConnect.Link’s MERLIN mentoring team is led by Dennis Barnum, who has over 30 years of experience in high-tech industry, primarily in computer software and services. Mr. Barnum is currently the Director of Operations for Thalchemy, a UW-Madison start up. He is also the Director of Research for Midwest Lighting Institute, leading an innovative clinical research project at UW Hospital and Clinics.
Also serving on HealthConnect.Link’s MERLIN team is Gregg Johnson, co-founder of four
biotechnology companies built around WARF patented technology over the past 28 years. During the past 30 years, he has filled all leadership roles for various high-tech, high growth potential companies. In addition, he has volunteered as a MERLIN Mentor for the past eight years and has mentored over 60 early stage management teams. He is currently mentoring his first 501c3 not for profit , HealthConnect.Link, who's mission Mr. Johnson sees as being especially valuable to communities with under served populations.
Additionally, Dave Zoerb rounds out the MERLIN team of mentors. Dave brings over 40 years of experience in consumer product and retail marketing and advertising, working with many national retail chains and top consumer brands. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Zoerb’s clients ranged from hospitals, domestic and foreign automotive brands, sporting goods, housewares, computer software companies and major retail chains.
Mr. Barnum notes, “MERLIN Mentors’ objective is to build a large base of dynamic entrepreneurs in the Madison area. Kevin Dwyer is a perfect example of the type of entrepreneur we would like to work with: passionate, creative, driven and coachable. As a member of the UW School of Nursing Board of Visitors, I believe that HealthConnect.Link is a perfect example of how technology can positively change our current health care system.”
HealthConnect.Link currently serves in partnership with SSM Health Dean Medical Group, Tenant Resources Center, School of Social Work – UW-Madison, Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, The Road Home, YWCA Madison, and NAMI Dane County, among others.
